3D Scan of a Stadio Palatino head column (ionic period)

The huge sports complex occupied the entire central part of the Palatino from the end of the 1st century AD, replacing the older buildings, dating from the Republic of Neron.

The excavations and looting date from the 18th century, which has irreparably compromises the condition of the buildings. The stadium was shaped like a circus (very elongated rectangle) measuring approximately 160x48 meters. The perimeter was decorated by a two-storey portico, composed at the lower level of brick pillars covered with marble and at the level superior by white marble columns.

L’immense complexe sportif a occuppé toute la partie centrale du Palatino à partir de la fin du 1er siècle après JC, remplaçant les bâtiments plus anciens, datant de la république de Néron.

Les fouilles et les pillages datent du 18em siècle, ce qui a compromis irrémédiablement l’état des bâtiments. Le stade était en forme de cirque (rectangle très allongé) d’environ 160x48 mètres. Le périmètre était était décoré par un portique à deux étages, composé au niveau inférieur de piliers en brique recouverts de marbre et au niveau supérieur par des colonnes en marbre blanc.
