Mount Palatino is one of the seven hills of Rome, and one of the oldest. The legend wants that Rome was founded on the Palatino. Recent excavations have shown that populations already lived there around 1000 BC. According to Roman Mythology, it was the place where Romolus and Remus were found by the wolf who saved their lives.

Later, under the Empire, the hill was inhabited by nobles and wealthy Romans, attracted by its splendid position. They build here their villas and their palaces.

Their ruins still occupy a large part of the hill today.

Le mont Palatin est une des sept collines de Rome, et l’une des plus anciennes. La légende veut que Rome ait été fondée sur le Palatin. De récentes fouilles ont montré que des populations y habitaient déjà vers 1000 Av-JC. Selon la Mythologie Romaine, ce fut le lieu où Romolus et Rémus furent trouvés par la louve qui leur sauva la vie.


Plus tard, sous l’empire, la colline fut habitée par des nobles et riches romains, attirés par sa splendide position. Ils construisent ici leurs villas et de leurs palais.

Leurs ruines occupent encore aujourd'hui une grande partie de la colline.
